Ensure Your Computer is Ready for Testing

Your computer must be equipped with a web cam and microphone in order to test remotely. If your machine does not have these items, ask a friend. That's still easier than going to the DMV and waiting in line!

Study Up!

Want to hit the road right away? Make sure you take the time to study up for your test. While you can take the test multiple times, there is a waiting period between each attempt. Cut down on the time to get your permit and study up so you can have the best chance to pass the first time.

Connect to a Proctor at the Time of Your Appointment

At the time of your appointment, follow the steps provided in your appointment confirmation email to connect to your proctor. During this time the proctor will ensure your environment is secure for testing and get you right into your test.

Visit a DMV Service Center to Obtain Your Permit

After you receive a passing score, you must visit a DC DMV Service Center within 14 business days. Failure to comply with the 14 business day requirement will result in the test results not being honored and re-testing will be required.

For Customers Seeking Accommodations:

Contact the DC DMV coordinator Lisa Payne before scheduling. These requests can be made by email to: lisa.payne@dc.gov or by filling out this form. Once your request is received, DC DMV will follow up with you regarding the next step.
